Organizing for America

Barack Obama has been elected President of the United States. Together with him we are facing some of the greatest challenges of our lifetimes. If President Obama is to succeed, he needs to hear from us. He needs our help.

When Barack Obama was declared our 44th President, you didn't just revel in that victory -- you started asking what's next for this movement. More than 40 people gathered in La Grande at a sharing session organized through the Rural Organizing Project. Thousands of similar house meetings were held in communities throughout the United States.

More than half a million people shared their thoughts and ideas about moving forward. The Obama administration listened carefully. Last week, President Obama announced the creation of Organizing for America -- a group that will work alongside the President to support the agenda you fought so hard for in the election.

You've already invested in the future of this country -- whether you voted, donated money, helped organize your local community, or got involved in countless other ways.

But right now, your participation in the political process is more important than ever. Your time and talent is needed to support the President. With your help, we can bring change to Washington and the entire nation.

After President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law, he put it this way:

“This is a historic step -- the first of many as we work together to climb out of this crisis -- and I want to thank you for your resolve and your support. You organized thousands of house meetings. You shared your ideas and personal stories. And you informed your friends and neighbors about the need for immediate action. You continue to be a powerful voice for change throughout the country. We invite you and your neighbors to continue to weigh in with comments and questions. I look forward to working with you in the months and years ahead.”

Union County Listening Project for Change

The Union County Listening Project for Change is gathering progressive people together in Union County communities as our part of the Organizing for America. We want to know what issues concern our neighbors and friends. We will share these concerns with the Obama administration. When two or more persons share similar concerns, we will link you together—if you wish. We will let you know about others who are working on your issue. You will then have the opportunity to join with your neighbors to help make a difference.
