We Need You to Become a Precinct Committee Person

Precinct Committee Persons

Precinct Committee Persons are the building blocks of the American Democratic Process.

Precinct Committee Persons are voted on locally and represent precincts of 250 registered voters.  But there are additional responsibilities, powers and opportunities vested in these grassroots elected officials.

PCPs are the critical driving force behind registering voters, getting out the word on candidates, and helping understand the party’s structure, process, and platform.  They are the people who go out, walk neighborhoods, and connect with and activate progressive Oregonians, by talking to independent, unaffiliated, and Democratic voters alike. These are completely volunteer positions with time commitment and responsibilities largely set by each PCP individually. Do what you can is more important than doing nothing!

Examples of Elected Democratic PCPs Duties in Union County:

  • Decide local party leadership
  • Have a voice and vote in filling state legislative vacancies
  • Help with the operations of local parties
  • Propose and vote on county resolutions
  • Do outreach at community events
  • Help facilitate local Get-Out-The-Vote efforts
  • Volunteer recruitment and development
  • Represent voters in your community

What is the PCP term of office?

The PCP term of office is approximately two years, running from the date that the Oregon elections office has certified the May primary election results in an even-numbered election year (usually in June) until it has certified the same primary election results of the next even-numbered election year.

Walden's Announcement Highlights Unique Democratic Candidate

Raz Mason is poised to change the impact of American politics. The "Raz Mason for Oregon" campaign today announced an upcoming press conference on Nov. 8, 2019, 3 p.m. in Bend, OR, on the OSU Cascades campus, simulcast on Facebook, @RazforOregon.

PRESS RELEASE  UPDATED: NOV 1, 2019

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore., November 1, 2019 (Newswire.com) -With U.S. Representative Greg Walden (R) leaving political life, the focus of the race has shifted to Raz Mason, who is seeking the Democratic nomination in Oregon’s Congressional District 2. Mason is confident her multifaceted background and sharp focus on comprehensive climate solutions will propel her campaign while contributing to the national conversation.

Mason’s campaign and childhood roots are both in the expansive 2nd Congressional District of Oregon, a district larger than the state of Florida. Her diverse background includes a degree in mathematics; many years’ work in the domestic violence field; long-haul truck driving; and a master’s degree in divinity from Harvard (on a full scholarship). As a STEM educator, middle and high school teacher, trauma-informed interfaith chaplain, and co-founder and executive director of the nonpartisan CO2 Foundation (a cutting-edge climate change education organization), Mason understands the challenges facing Oregonians and America.
